Trusting in God

Romans 4:16-22 states that Abraham was saved by faith and it was accredited to him as righteousness. If we can believe God for our eternal salvation (our faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, alongside repentance and a transformed life), then we can believe Him for a whole lot more in this life. God is perfect in His holiness and we can trust Him because:

  • God’s character is love, ‘God is love’ (1 John 4:8), ‘God is light and in Him is no darkness at all’ (1 John 1:5) God feeds the animals, waters the earth and looks after His children (Psalm 147:7-18).
  • Calvary love, Jesus died on the cross of Calvary to redeem man back to God and after three days Jesus rose from the dead (Matthew 27:26-63). God allowed His Son to die for mankind; there was no greater price that could have been paid. God gave His best for us.
  • God has covered us with His love, we have been adopted into His family and have become His children (1 John 1:12 and Romans 8:15).
  • God is all knowing and has infinite wisdom. He knows what’s best for us, we are not meant to trust in our own understanding, but in Him (Psalm 45:5 and Proverbs 3:5-6) ‘Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God...’ (Romans 11:33).
  • God is sovereign in His control. He knows when each individual sparrow dies and ultimately nothing can happened unless God allows it for whatever reason (Matthew 10:29, John 19:8-12, Job chapters 1-2 and 42:10-12). ‘A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps’ (Proverbs 16:9). ‘There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord's counsel that will stand’ (Proverbs 19:21).

  • ‘He who wins souls is wise ‘and ‘The heart of the righteous studies how to answer’ (Proverbs 11:30 and Proverbs 15:28).
