I want to be a Missionary!

So you want to be a missionary? Jesus Christ was the ultimate missionary as He left His familiar surroundings of heaven and came to earth to complete the mission that His Father had for Him to do.

Telling the good news about Jesus Christ to another is one of the best things that any disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ can do. To be part of the Great Commission and to be responsible for world mission is a high calling to attain to. For some they hear the call of God from an early age, whilst for others the call of God comes in a later period of life.

The best preparation for tomorrow is to be faithful in what you have to do today! If you are unable to share the good news with your friends and neighbours then it is unlikely that you are called to be a missionary. That is unless, you’re just shy.

One day God challenged me to stop being shy, through a visiting speaker at my church. At work the following day, I began to openly share my faith and hand out meaningful tracts to selected people. Within a few years, God directed me to Bible College and into full time ministry, which included (and still does) lots of short-term missions.

You may know that God wants you to be a missionary or to go on a short-term mission trip, but you need to know His direct will, direction and the way to fulfil His call on your life. This process is made much easier by being able to discern the voice of God (this comes with experience) because there are many voices - ours (being wishful thinking), the devil's (causing us to go outside of God’s will) and then there is God’s perfect pleasing will for our life (which we should all follow).
