I want to go on a short-term mission! In recent years there has been a rise in the number of people wanting to go on short-term missions. This is great news for the kingdom of God, as those who name the name of Jesus Christ desire to promote His cause further into a hurting and needy world. We follow Jesus, who came to seek and to save those who were lost and to bind up the broken hearted and to comfort those who mourn. Short-term missions are great for many reasons: it gives you the ability to share your faith in another culture and country and/or to give of yourself to those who are less fortunate than yourself. Even if you are in full time employment or education, you can still go in your holiday time. You may know that your calling is to be a missionary, but are not yet 100% sure where your field of labour is, or what talents and gifts you have. By going on a short-term mission, you will be able to ascertain whether the country, (people group) or the ministry you are involved in is for you. It will also be an adventure and an experience that you will not quickly forget! Where could you go? Around the world there are endless possibilities - to Europe, the Americas, Africa, Australia and Oceania, to the Middle East or the frozen lands of Siberia! Where do you want to go? What sort of society do you want to go to? Secular, materialistic, pagan, animist, Communist, Islamic or Buddhist etc.?! You could go with a friend, fellow church members, or a mission organisation. You may think that each person’s contribution may be small, but each contribution is part of the whole – so we must each do our bit. Well what are you waiting for?
