The Great Commission

Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” Mark 16:15-16.

Jesus sent out the twelve disciples on their first short-term mission (STM) and said, “And as you go, preach saying, 'The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons, freely you have received, freely give” Matthew 10:7-8.

Whilst each mission agency or humanitarian organisation (listed below on the left-hand side) is placed into its primary category, with some there is overlapping (humanitarian aid and gospel outreach) and some will expand or retract in certain areas over time. Please note that some NGOs (humanitarian organisations) are open to people of all faiths (and those of no faith) and perhaps is an opportunity to share the Good News with other team members or an NGO to be avoided.

The onus is on you to read all the small print and contact any organisations before you decide which group (if any) you wish to spend your hard earn money and holiday (vacation) time and will you feel comfortable in a group who are in their teens when you are in your late 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond? Some organisations have your age groups in mind, others group all together.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is playing your part in the Great Commission, when Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach…” (Mark 16:15) or to express the love of Christ in His words, “Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it for Me” (Matthew 25:35-45) or a combination of the two. Remember that love is a universal language and transcends culture and speech and ‘do all for the glory of God’ (1 Corinthians 10:31).
